JAMMU, MAR 17: Social media influencer Orhan Awatramani, popularly known as Orry, along with seven others, has been booked by the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) for allegedly consuming alcohol at a hotel in Katra, the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.

The incident occurred despite strict prohibitions on the sale, possession, and consumption of liquor and non-vegetarian food in Katra and its surrounding areas. These restrictions have been enforced to preserve the sanctity of the pilgrimage site, which sees millions of devotees annually.

Authorities had initially imposed a two-month ban on such activities in December 2024, covering Katra and the 12-kilometer track leading to the holy cave on Trikuta hill. The restriction was later extended for another two months in February 2025 to maintain the spiritual atmosphere of the region.

Police have registered a case against Orry and his associates under relevant legal provisions. Officials have reiterated that strict action will be taken against those violating the regulations aimed at safeguarding the religious and cultural values of the area.

Pilgrims and visitors have been urged to adhere to these rules to ensure the sanctity of the shrine is maintained. Law enforcement agencies remain on high alert to prevent any activities that could disrupt the spiritual environment of the site.
