Jammu, January 31:

Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Northern Command, conducted a high-level security review in Kishtwar today. The visit was aimed at evaluating the operational preparedness and the effectiveness of the counter-terrorism grid in the Chenab Valley region.

The Army Commander’s visit comes amid a renewed focus on strengthening the security architecture and ensuring a robust response mechanism against any emerging threats in the Jammu region.

Operational Readiness Under Review

During his visit, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma was briefed by ground commanders on the prevailing security situation and the latest measures taken to dominate the area. The review focused on:

  • Intelligence-Driven Operations: Ensuring seamless coordination between various security agencies for real-time information sharing.

  • Hinterland Security: Strengthening the inner layers of the counter-terrorism grid to prevent any infiltration or movement of hostile elements.

  • Winter Preparedness: Assessing the logistical and tactical readiness of troops stationed in the rugged terrain of Kishtwar during the peak winter months.

Interaction with Troops

Moving to the forward areas, the Army Commander interacted directly with the soldiers and field commanders. He spent time discussing ground-level challenges and understanding the tactical nuances of ongoing operations.

“The Army Commander commended the ever-committed troops for their unwavering resolve and high morale. He praised their professionalism in maintaining peace and stability in the region despite challenging conditions.”

Addressing the commanders, Lt Gen Sharma emphasized the need for constant vigilance and “proactive operational posture.” He noted that the synergy between the Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and Para-military forces remains the cornerstone of maintaining a terror-free environment in the Union Territory.

The visit reaffirmed the Northern Command’s dedication to an “uncompromising security framework” as developmental projects in the Kishtwar district continue to gain momentum.
