DEHRADUN, NOV 04: The Indian Youth Congress (IYC), under the leadership of its national president Uday Bhanu Chib, launched the statewide “Nasha Nahi, Naukri Do” campaign in Uttarakhand on Wednesday. The campaign, aimed at addressing unemployment and drug addiction among the youth, began with a massive “Sachivalay Gherao” at Rangers Ground, Dehradun.
As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, hundreds of youth and activists gathered at the event, raising slogans like “Rozgar Do, Nasha Chhodo” to demand immediate action from the government. Senior Congress leaders, including Pritam Singh, Harish Rawat, Karan Mahara, Ganesh Godiyal, Harish Dhami, Ravi Bahadur, Prakash Joshi, and Bhuvan Kapri, extended their support to the initiative.
Speaking at the gathering, IYC President Uday Bhanu Chib highlighted the alarming rise in unemployment and drug abuse. “Unemployment in our nation is at a 35-year high, and Uttarakhand is no exception. Drug addiction is not just an individual issue but a societal challenge linked to the lack of purpose and opportunities for our youth. This campaign is our collective voice to demand change and accountability,” he said.
Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee President Karan Mahara also addressed the crowd, discussing the dual challenges of unemployment and drug addiction in the state. He emphasized the need for strong measures to curb these issues and briefly touched on the three-year relief period granted to slum dwellers along riverbeds in Dehradun.
Following the public meeting, the participants organized a peaceful yet assertive march to the Sachivalay, where they presented their demands to the authorities. The campaign will continue with awareness drives, protests, and policy discussions aimed at securing job opportunities and stricter anti-drug measures.
State Youth Congress President Sumittar Bhullar affirmed the organization’s commitment to the cause. “This program reflects our dedication to addressing critical social issues and ensuring the economic well-being of our youth. It is not just a movement for Uttarakhand but a call to action for the entire nation,” he said.
A memorandum outlining the demands was submitted to the authorities, urging the government to prioritize employment generation and implement comprehensive measures against drug abuse.
The Indian Youth Congress, under the leadership of Uday Bhanu Chib and Shri Sumittar Bhullar, has vowed to continue its efforts in safeguarding the rights and welfare of young people across the nation.
