Jammu, June 6:
In a major success under the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’, the Udhampur Police has arrested an inter-district drug peddler and recovered a commercial quantity of contraband from his possession in the Rehambal area.
The arrest is part of the intensified crackdown against the drug menace (#DrugsFreeUdhampur) launched by the district police to snap the supply chains operating across different districts of the Union Territory.
According to police sources, a vigilant team from the Rehambal Police Station was conducting routine vehicle interception and traffic checking at the high-stakes Phalata Naka point. During the operation, the police team flagged down a motorcycle bearing registration number JK02CS-6012 for a routine search.
Upon a thorough physical search of the rider, the police team recovered 10 grams of heroin (chitta) hidden in his possession. The contraband was immediately seized on the spot in accordance with established legal procedures.
The arrested accused has been identified as: Kulbir Singh, Son of Mohan Singh, Resident of Upper Gadi Garh Bawaliyana, Jammu.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused was operating as an inter-district courier, attempting to transport and distribute the illicit transition into the interiors of Udhampur district.
Following the recovery, the Rehambal Police arrested the accused on the spot and impounded the motorcycle used in the commission of the crime: Case Registered: FIR No. 127/2026, Sections Applied: Under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Police Station: Rehambal Police Station.
An official stated that a comprehensive investigation has been initiated to trace the forward and backward linkages of the peddler, aiming to unearth the source of the consignment and identify the local buyers in the area. Further disclosures are expected as the interrogation progresses.
