Jammu, April 26:

In a moving tribute to the “gift of life,” Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha attended ‘Naman Diwas’ today, an event dedicated to honoring organ donors and their selfless families. Speaking to a gathering of cornea and kidney donor families, the LG emphasized that no official award could ever truly encapsulate the profound value of their contribution to humanity.

“The Measure of Life is in What We Give”

During his keynote address, LG Sinha touched upon the philosophical and cultural significance of organ donation, noting that the act transcends material accumulation.

“Across centuries, philosophers and thinkers have arrived at the same truth: the measure of life is not in what we accumulate, but in what we give. Those we honor today have given the most precious gift of all—the gift that sustains life itself.”

The LG specifically lauded cornea and kidney donors, describing them as the true role models of modern society. He remarked that through these donations, individuals are regaining their sight, their health, and their dignity.

A Call to Action: “Every Citizen a Potential Donor”

Highlighting the “extraordinary power” every individual holds to save lives even after death, the Lieutenant Governor made a passionate appeal to the public.

  • Take the Pledge: LG Sinha urged every citizen to register as a donor.

  • Leading by Example: The LG reminded the audience that he pledged his own organs last year through the Ayushman Bharat Organ Donation Registry.

  • Breaking Myths: He addressed cultural and religious hesitations, affirming that all traditions celebrate the sanctity of life and the virtue of selfless giving.

SOTTO J&K: Turning Awareness into a Movement

The Lieutenant Governor commended the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO J&K) for its tireless efforts in raising awareness. He credited the organization for:

  1. Hospital Partnerships: Collaborating with medical facilities to identify brain-dead donor cases sensitively.

  2. Community Outreach: Working with NGOs and educational institutions to normalize the conversation around donation.

  3. Training: Equipping medical professionals with the tools to manage the complexities of organ retrieval.

The Way Forward

LG Sinha tasked SOTTO J&K representatives with a new mission: to take the message of organ donation into every school, college, place of worship, and workplace across the UT.

“A person whose earthly journey has ended can still give new life,” the LG concluded. “Through cornea donation, that same person can restore the simple joy of seeing a child’s smile or a sunrise.”
