New Delhi / Jammu, Feb 7:
In a proud moment for Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Ashok Samyal, a seasoned officer of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has been promoted to the prestigious rank of Inspector General (IG). The promotion, ordered by the Government of India, was formally recognized during a ceremonial “pipping” ceremony led by the Director General of the CRPF in New Delhi today.
A Journey from Gho Brahamana to National Leadership
Hailing from the village of Gho Brahamana in the Vijaypur area of District Samba, Shri Samyal’s rise through the ranks is a story of grit and perseverance. The son of Shri Mani Ram Samyal, he has spent over three decades serving in the country’s most volatile regions.

The Architect of Training Institutions
Shri Samyal is widely credited with strengthening the Force’s tactical capabilities. He served as the Principal of the Central Training College (CTC) Neemuch and the Recruit Training Centre (RTC) Neemuch.
Under his command, RTC Neemuch was ranked first at the All-India level, earning him the Union Home Minister’s Disc and Commendation Letter. He was also instrumental in raising the first Counter-Insurgency and Anti-Terrorism (CIAT) School in Udharbond, Silchar.

Throughout his 35-year tenure, Shri Samyal has been one of the Force’s most decorated officers.

Shri Samyal is also a trained mountaineer. He was a member of the 1st Indigenous CRPF Mountain Expedition, successfully summiting Jogin Peak in the Himalayas.
Roots in Discipline: From NCC to IG
Before donning the CRPF uniform, Shri Samyal was a standout student at SRMLHS School and SPRM College of Commerce in Jammu. He later studied at the Law Department of Jammu University. A former NCC ‘C’ Certificate holder and Republic Day Parade participant, his leadership style is often described as “people-centric” and deeply rooted in the discipline he learned as a cadet.
Currently posted in Delhi, the newly minted Inspector General continues to credit his success to the blessings of his native village. “The unwavering support of the people of Jammu has been my constant source of strength,” he noted following the ceremony.
