SRINAGAR , NOV 03: Six civilians were injured following a grenade explosion at Srinagar’s popular Sunday Market, where thousands gather for winter shopping.
The incident took place at the TRC crossing, targeting security forces but injuring bystanders instead, police said.
According to officials, suspected militants hurled a grenade toward a security forces vehicle, but the device missed its mark, landing on the road and detonating near a crowd of shoppers. Witnesses reported panic in the usually bustling market as the explosion sent people scrambling for cover.
Medical authorities at SMHS Hospital confirmed they received five injured individuals, all reported to be in stable condition. “We are monitoring their recovery, and fortunately, none of the injuries are life-threatening,” a hospital spokesperson stated.
The weekly flea market, known for drawing large crowds, had a substantial turnout as locals flocked to buy winter essentials.
Following the blast, police cordoned off the area, suspending all market activity, and launched a search operation to locate the perpetrators.
