JAMMU, SEPT 05: The Central Election Commission has imposed a strict ban on exit polls during the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The prohibition will be in effect from the first day of polling, beginning September 18, until 48 hours after the conclusion of voting on October 5, officials announced.
The commission has clarified that no media outlets, including print, digital, and television, will be permitted to conduct, publish, or broadcast exit polls during this period. Violators could face severe penalties, including imprisonment of up to two years or fines, or both. This move aims to ensure a fair election process and to prevent any undue influence on voter behavior.
The ban applies to all voter surveys and projections based on polling trends, which could otherwise impact the election outcome. The Election Commission has advised media representatives to strictly adhere to the guidelines, underscoring the legal consequences of violations.
