Diwali celebrated at Srinagar

SRINAGAR, OCT 31: Srinagar’s historic Clock Tower (Ghantaghar) in Lal Chowk radiated with Diwali festivities as hundreds gathered to illuminate the area with traditional diyas, celebrating the festival of lights.

The event brought together people from various backgrounds, showcasing a communal spirit and shared heritage.

A local news agency while talking to a local participant Imran expressed the celebration’s deeper meaning, stating, “We are here to spread the light of peace and unity.” Another attendee, Raju, added, “Diwali is more than a festival; it’s a celebration of our shared heritage. Watching the community come together brings joy and hope for the future.”

The celebration also supported local artisans, with an increased demand for handcrafted diyas and pottery. Mohammad Umar Kumar, a Srinagar-based artisan, shared that he sold over 2,500 diyas ahead of the festival. “It’s inspiring to see people embrace traditions, bringing communities closer,” he noted. Potters in nearby areas like Ganderbal echoed this sentiment, saying that the interest in traditional pottery is breathing life back into their craft.

Despite a slight dip in market activity compared to last year, artisans are hopeful, as Diwali not only brightens homes but also rekindles interest in local traditions.
