JAMMU, FEB 28: A massive avalanche struck a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) labour camp between Mana and Badrinath at around 7:15 AM on Friday, burying 57 workers inside eight containers and a shed.
The Indian Army’s swift response teams, including over 100 personnel from the Ibex Brigade, were immediately mobilized with doctors, ambulances, and heavy equipment. By 11:50 AM, rescue teams had located five containers and successfully pulled out 10 individuals alive, four of whom are in critical condition.
Search operations continue for the remaining three containers, but progress is slow due to ongoing small-scale avalanches in the area. Heavy snowfall is hampering rescue efforts, and extreme caution is being exercised. Meanwhile, the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) is working to clear the road between Joshimath and Mana to facilitate relief operations.
Additional medical resources from Joshimath are being mobilized to provide urgent care to the rescued workers as operations remain underway.
