Jammu, Feb 3:
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to embark on a crucial three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir from February 5 to 7. The visit comes at a pivotal time for the Union Territory, with a packed itinerary focusing on a comprehensive security audit, political engagement, and the unveiling of major infrastructure projects.
The Itinerary: Three Days of High-Level Action
The Home Minister’s visit is strategically divided between the Jammu and Kashmir divisions, covering both border security and urban development:
-
February 5: Political Outreach in Jammu Shah will arrive in Jammu on the evening of February 5. His first engagement will be at Lok Bhavan, where he is scheduled to interact with local political leaders to gauge the grassroots sentiment and discuss the region’s evolving political landscape.
-
February 6: Border Assessment and Security Review The second day begins with a visit to the International Border (IB) in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district. This visit is particularly significant given the recent reports of drone activities in the border areas. Later, he will chair a high-level security meeting in Jammu, attended by: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Heads of Security Forces and Intelligence Agencies, Senior Officers from the Union Home Ministry and Top Civil and Police Officials.
- February 7: Development Launch in Srinagar The final leg of the tour will take Shah to the Kashmir Valley. In Srinagar, he is expected to inaugurate and launch several key development initiatives, further solidifying the government’s commitment to the region’s economic growth before departing for Chhattisgarh.
A Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Terror
According to official sources, the visit aims to reinforce the Government of India’s “Zero-Tolerance Policy” against terrorism. This review is one of the first major security assessments of 2026, focusing on neutralizing remaining terror threats in difficult terrains and tightening the vigil along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB).
Focus on Connectivity and Progress
The visit also underscores the massive shift in J&K’s narrative toward PAN-India connectivity. From the progress of the Srinagar railway link to the development of new industrial estates, the Home Minister’s visit is expected to provide a fresh impetus to the “Srinagar Smart City” projects and other rural infrastructure under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
