Jammu, Dec 27:

In a comprehensive media briefing held today, Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Jammu, showcased the institution’s meteoric rise as a national leader in healthcare, research, and innovation. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the institute has transformed from a construction site into a world-class “ecosystem of healing” in record time.

AIIMS Jammu has achieved a landmark milestone by securing the 7th position in Outlook Magazine’s 2025 ranking of Government Medical Universities. This makes it the second-highest ranked AIIMS in India, trailing only the legendary AIIMS Delhi—a significant feat for a “new-age” AIIMS.

Prof. Gupta highlighted the massive scale of public service provided by the institute since its inception: OPD Patients Treated (3.68 Lakh+), Emergency Cases (22,810), Surgeries Performed (3,283), Inpatient Admissions (8,783) and Diagnostic Scans {CT/MRI} (17,500+).

The hospital now offers advanced care in 14+ departments, including Cardiology, Neurosurgery, Surgical Oncology, and Neonatology, eliminating the need for J&K residents to travel outside the region for complex treatments.

AIIMS Jammu is setting new benchmarks with facilities unique in the country: It houses the only Centre for Advanced Genomics and Precision Medicine among all new AIIMS, enabling personalized cancer treatment. The advanced biochemistry lab uses “waterless dry chemistry” for rapid, eco-friendly diagnostics. To assist patients, the institute launched the AIIMS Indoor Navigation App (a “GPS for hospitals”) alongside the Rogi Sahayak Mitra system to guide visitors.

The institute has rapidly expanded its educational footprint: Six MBBS batches (100 students each) are currently enrolled. Introduction of B.Sc. Nursing, MD/MS, MDS, and M.Ch programs. Over 140 ongoing projects with global collaborations, including the University of Alabama and IIT/IIM Jammu.

Prof. Gupta unveiled an ambitious future plan to establish specialized Centres of Excellence in: Robotics & Predictive Medicine, Oncology & Trauma Sciences, Global Centre for AI in Healthcare and Satellite Centre at Basholi for rural outreach.

“AIIMS Jammu is not just about treating diseases; it is about healing lives and building a healthier tomorrow for generations to come,” Prof. Gupta concluded.
