KUPWARA, NOV 05: An award ceremony was held on Tuesday at the District Police Headquarters in Kupwara, where SSP Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani (JKPS) honored eight officers and officials of the District Police for their exemplary work in securing a conviction in a high-profile narcotics case. The officers received Cash Rewards sanctioned by the Police Headquarters (PHQ) and DGP’s Commendation Certificates in recognition of their dedicated efforts.
As per the release issued here, the honored officers were instrumental in securing the conviction in Case FIR No. 56/2019 under sections 8/21, 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The case, investigated by Inspector Waseem Ahmad with the assistance of APP Ab Rashid Dar, Inspector Azad, SI Zaffar, and other team members, led to the seizure of 15 kilograms of brown sugar. Their thorough investigation culminated in the conviction of two accused individuals.
The Court of Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Kupwara) delivered its judgment on August 28, 2023, finding the accused guilty. On September 5, 2023, the court sentenced the convicts to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2 lakh each.
During the ceremony, SSP Ghulam Jeelani Wani praised the officers for their commitment, noting that the recognition is a matter of pride for both the officers and their families. He highlighted the significance of their hard work and professionalism in the successful handling of such a critical case, which serves as an inspiration to others within the police force.
