BARAMULLA/KULGAM, NOV 05: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) on Tuesday have arrested three individuals suspected of drug peddling in Baramulla and Kulgam districts. The arrests led to the recovery of substantial quantities of contraband substances.
As per the release issued here, in Baramulla, a police team led by the SHO of Police Station (PS) Baramulla set up a checkpoint at Eco Park. During routine inspections, they intercepted Roshan Ahmad Awan, son of Mohd Ahmad Awan, a resident of Paranpeelan Uri. Upon searching him, officers discovered 65 grams of a substance resembling charas. Awan was taken into custody and is currently detained at the Baramulla Police Station.
Meanwhile, in Kulgam, officers from Police Station Qaimoh, headed by the SHO, conducted a checkpoint at Khudwani Bypass (NHW-44). There, they stopped two individuals, later identified as Mohd Imran Bhat (son of Tariq Ahmad Bhat) and Mohd Nawaz Lohar (son of Ghulam Nabi Lohar), both residents of Mohar, Reasi. A search revealed 30 grams of charas and 600 grams of ground cannabis-like substance in their possession. Both men were promptly arrested and are being held at the Qaimoh Police Station.
In response to these arrests, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at the respective police stations, and investigations are underway.
The police have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any drug-related activities by contacting the nearest police station or dialing 112. They assured the community that they remain committed to curbing drug peddling and will take strict action against offenders in accordance with the law.
