Police Arrests Bootlegger

SHOPIAN, NOV 01: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) in Shopian on Saturday apprehended a suspected bootlegger and seized a substantial quantity of illicit liquor. The arrest was made during a routine patrol conducted by a police team from the Shopian Police Station at Batapora, Shopian.

As per the release issued here, the suspect, identified as Bhashkar Shagosh Chavhan, son of Shagosh Chavhan, hails from Ramaji Nagar Sonala Road, Borgaon District Akola, Maharashtra. He was residing as a tenant in Batpora Chowk, Shopian. The individual attempted to flee upon spotting the police patrol but was apprehended through prompt action by the officers.

A search of the suspect’s bag revealed 26 bottles of illicit liquor. Following his arrest, Chavhan was taken to the police station, and a case was registered against him under FIR No. 152/2024 with relevant legal sections.

The J&K Police has reiterated its commitment to curbing illegal liquor and drug activities in the area and has urged citizens to provide any information regarding such activities in their locality.
