KISHTWAR, OCT 12: In a significant breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kishtwar have apprehended three members of a gang responsible for a series of burglaries at religious sites in Dachan, Kishtwar district.
As per the officials, the thefts, which occurred during the night of September 20-21, 2024, involved the breaking into donation boxes and safes of various religious institutions and stealing cash.
The targeted locations included both temples and mosques, raising alarm in the local community. The religious places affected were:
1. Shiv Mandir, Dwran Mohalla
2. Ram Leela Club, Sounder
3. Masjid Sharief, Shanger Mohalla
4. Masjid Sharief, Sheikh Mohalla
5. Masjid Sharief, Wani Mohalla
6. Masjid Sharief, Krusa Mohalla
Upon receiving the complaints, Kishtwar Police registered an FIR under case No. 20/2024 U/S 331(4)/305 BNS at Police Station Dachhan. An intensive investigation was initiated, led by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar, Abdul Qayoom-JKPS.
The SIT, headed by Inspector Harjeet Singh, SHO of PS Dachhan, meticulously gathered evidence, including CCTV footage from the area. Their efforts led to the identification and eventual arrest of the culprits involved in the thefts. The arrested individuals have been identified as:
1. Shamim Ahmed, son of Abdul Latief, resident of Ghunti Thathri
2. Adil Hussain, son of Abdul Latief, resident of Indloo Bharnoo, Tehsil Kahara, Gandoh, District Doda
3. Jamal Din, son of Mohd. Abdullah, resident of Indloo Bharnoo, Tehsil Kahara, District Doda
The police also recovered stolen property along with the tools used by the burglars to break open the safes and locks at the religious sites.
SSP Kishtwar, Abdul Qayoom, commended the efforts of the police team and highlighted the role of the town’s CCTV surveillance system, which helped the police track the movements of the burglars and solve the case. The SSP also stressed that Kishtwar town remains under 24/7 surveillance, ensuring the safety and security of the residents and religious institutions.
