DODA, SEPT 13: Two people were killed in a tragic road accident on Friday when a truck rolled down into a deep gorge near Mahlori on the Doda-Kishtwar Road, officials said. The victims, the driver and his helper, died on the spot.
The accident occurred when a truck, bearing registration number JK06-8747, veered off the road and plunged approximately 300 meters into a gorge, police officials confirmed. The driver, Asif Ahmed, son of Afzal Hajam from Bhagwah Bhata, and the helper, Amir Ahmed from Saikhwan, Doda, were both pronounced dead at the spot.
A police officer said that the incident happened near Mahlori, “The truck lost control and veered off the road, falling into a steep gorge. Unfortunately, both individuals aboard the vehicle succumbed to their injuries before any rescue efforts could reach them,” the official said.
Local authorities, along with the police, immediately rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. While the exact reason behind the mishap is yet to be determined, preliminary reports suggest poor road conditions and sharp turns in the area may have contributed to the accident.
