55th BSF-BGB

NEW DELHI, FEB 14: The 55th Director General Level Border Coordination Conference between the Border Security Force (BSF) of India and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) commenced on Friday at BSF Headquarters, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The four-day conference, scheduled from February 17 to 20, 2025, aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and address key border-related issues.

The Indian delegation is being led by Daljit Singh Chawdhary, IPS, Director General, BSF, while the Bangladeshi delegation is headed by Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Director General, Border Guard Bangladesh.

The conference will focus on pressing concerns, including measures to prevent attacks on BSF personnel and Indian civilians by miscreants from across the border, strategies to curb trans-border crimes, construction of a single-row fence, action against Indian Insurgent Groups (IIGs) in Bangladesh, and improvements in border infrastructure. Both sides will also deliberate on strengthening the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) and Confidence-Building Measures (CBM) to ensure better coordination between the two forces.

The last BSF-BGB Border Coordination Conference was held from March 5 to 9, 2024, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. These bi-annual meetings, initiated under the Joint India-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities (1975), have played a crucial role in fostering border security cooperation.

Since the first meeting in December 1975 in Kolkata, led by then DG BSF Ashwani Kumar and DG BDR (now BGB) Major General Quazi Golam Dastgir the discussions have evolved into a structured dialogue. In 1993, during the India-Bangladesh Home Secretary-level talks in Dhaka, it was agreed that these meetings would be held twice a year, alternately in India and Bangladesh.
