SRINAGAR, DEC 03: A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, Junaid Ahmed Bhat, was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Dachigam forest area, police confirmed on Tuesday.
According to police officials, Bhat was a Category A terrorist involved in the killing of civilians at Gagangir in Ganderbal district and several other attacks.
The Kashmir Police Zone took to social media platform X to announce the development, stating, “In the ongoing operation, one terrorist is killed and has been identified as Junaid Ahmed Bhat (LeT, Category A). The said terrorist was involved in civilians killing at Gagangir, Ganderbal, and several other terror attacks.”
The operation began following specific intelligence inputs about militant presence in the upper reaches of the Dachigam forest. A joint team of security forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the area, leading to the encounter.
Earlier, police had shared updates about the operation, saying, “Based on specific intelligence input, joint parties of SFs launched CASO in the upper reaches of Dachigam forest. Contact established. OP is in progress. Details shall follow.” – (TNR24)
