JAMMU, OCT 25: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra on Friday engaged with senior leaders and party candidates from the Jammu region to assess the political landscape and security concerns following recent elections. The five-hour session reviewed constituency-level feedback, organizational structure, and the rising trend in terror incidents, including a recent attack on an Army convoy in Gulmarg.
As per the statement issued here, the meeting, attended by the Chairman and members of the PCC’s fact-finding committee, provided a platform for candidates to share insights from the election and offer suggestions on strengthening the party organization down to booth levels. The committee noted all feedback and proposed strategies for revamping the party’s influence in Jammu and across the Union Territory.
Expressing shock over the escalating terror incidents, the gathering condemned the attacks, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures. Participants urged the new government to adopt a robust anti-terror strategy that ensures the safety of civilians.
Party leaders also celebrated the electoral success of Karra from Srinagar City and Iftikhar Ahmed from Rajouri, expressing full support for the PCC President’s vision of revitalizing the Congress in the region.
During his address, Karra emphasized that the Congress stands as a democratic force to counter divisive narratives, underscoring that despite recent challenges, the party remains influential in Jammu, securing thousands of votes in various constituencies. He encouraged party representatives to connect with grassroots workers and bring public issues to the forefront of the government’s agenda.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to prioritize the restoration of statehood and safeguard provisions for land and jobs, along with addressing unemployment and the Darbar Move policy.
Among those present were prominent candidates and party figures, including Tara Chand, Raman Bhalla, Ch. Lal Singh, Yogesh Sawhney, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Shabir Ahmed Khan, and others. Meanwhile, the Fact-Finding Committee announced its upcoming schedule to meet party workers across districts, beginning with Jammu Urban tomorrow and continuing with Reasi, Udhampur, Samba, and Kathua districts in the following days.
