Professor [Mrs.] Smile Afua Gavua Dzisi in her presentation at the Ghana National Association Of Teachers stakeholdes forum adviced young teachers to use their savings to further their education and other relevant courses to enable them build a good and quality standard of teaching in the country.According to her, teachers are one of the top most prefession in Ghana despite all challenges but that should not discourage the service rendered to the country.She plead with teachers to aquire knowledge for better service.
However, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is advocating for a “one laptop and one modem per teacher” policy to support teachers.The Association says that such an intervention will help them discharge their duties effectively as they engage their students online.
BACKGROUND
Prof. Smile Afua Gavua Dzisi is an associate professor of entrepreneurship and innovation, an internationally-acclaimed academician and educationist, a business innovation consultant, and a distinguished public servant.
The Rector who is expected to assume office in August 1, 2015 was born on 18th June, 1971, to Rev. Eusebius Kofi Gavua and Mrs Rebecca Dzandu Gavua from Wusuta in the Volta Region of Ghana. Smile had her basic education at Saviefe Agorkpo, a rural community near Ho in the Volta Region.
She furthered her education at Mawuli School where she obtained her GCE ‘O’ Level and GCE ‘A’ Level certificates. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and a Master of Public Administration degree from University of Ghana, Legon. Between 2005 and 2008, she studied for a Doctor of Philosophy in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Swinburne University of Technology in Australia, where received an award for the most distinguished Ph.D. thesis.
She joined the Koforidua Polytechnic as a lecturer in 1999, Professor Smile Dzisi rose through the ranks and held numerous managerial positions including Head of Department, Purchasing and Supply; Head of Department, Marketing; Campus Coordinator, Teaching and Learning Innovation Fund [TALIF];
She was also Director of Research and New Programmes; Acting Deputy Registrar [Academic]; Focal Person, Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development; Managing Editor, International Journal of Technology and Management Research [IJTMR]; Dean, School of Graduate Studies and Vice Rector of the Koforidua Polytechnic.
Prof. Dzisi has made enormous contributions to curriculum development for polytechnic education in particular and tertiary education in general. For many years, she designed, taught and evaluated management, business, and entrepreneurial courses at undergraduate and post graduate levels.
The first female rector in Ghana has dozens of research papers to her credit. She has presented several international conference papers and has had many refereed papers published in international journals. She has also reviewed several scientific journal articles and presented many technical reports. She is also an author of a major textbook and co-author of others.
She is a member of several internationally recognized professional bodies such as the International Society for Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM), and Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM).
Professor Dzisi provides consultancy service for the UNFPA, the World Bank, International Needs and some government and private agencies in Ghana.
The associate professor of entrepreneurship and innovation is also a deaconess and a family counselor at the International Central Gospel Church – Jesus Temple, Koforidua and is married to a medical practitioner Dr. Stephen Yao Dzisi with three children.
