President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has traveled out of Ghana barely a week after being re-elected for a second term.
President Akufo-Addo will also attend the swearing-in of Professor Alpha Condé, who was in October re-elected President of Guinea. That ceremony, in Conakry, will take place on Tuesday.
Ghana’s president, whose second term will officially begin on Thursday, January 7, 2021, is attending those two functions in his capacity as the Chairperson of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
A release issued by the Presidency also said: “The President will from 15th December be in London for a private visit.”
He is accompanied by First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, and officials of the Presidency and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In his absence, Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will act in his stead in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution.
