SRINAGAR, NOV 30: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) in Srinagar carried out extensive raids in Batamaloo and HMT areas as part of an investigation under case FIR No. 65/2024 registered at Police Station Shergari on Saturday. The case pertains to activities under Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, involving alleged conspiracies to spread fabricated narratives aimed at inciting unrest.
As per the release issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the raids, conducted following search warrants obtained from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court, targeted the residences of Obais Riyaz Dar, son of Riyaz Ahmad Dar, a resident of Bonpora Batmaloo, and Sahil Ahmad Bhat, son of Noor Mohammad, a resident of HMT, Zainakot.
Police stated that the individuals are under investigation for their role in manufacturing and disseminating twisted and false information intended to provoke unlawful and violent activities.
During the searches, incriminating materials and electronic devices were seized. A police spokesperson confirmed that additional searches would be carried out in the homes of other suspects identified in connection with the alleged seditious propaganda.
Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution while using social media, emphasizing the importance of refraining from sharing or uploading content that could promote false narratives or mislead the youth into unlawful activities.
“Spreading malicious content not only misguides people but also threatens the peace and stability of the region. We appeal to everyone to act responsibly,” the police release stated.
The investigation is ongoing, and further actions are anticipated in the coming days.
