Jio Partners with SpaceX

MUMBAI, MAR 12:  Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) has announced an agreement with SpaceX to bring Starlink’s broadband internet services to its customers in India. The deal, subject to regulatory approvals for Starlink’s commercial operations, will allow Jio to expand its broadband offerings to include satellite-based connectivity, enhancing digital access across the country, including remote and underserved regions.

The agreement will enable Jio and SpaceX to explore how Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellite network can complement Jio’s existing broadband services. Jio plans to distribute Starlink equipment through its retail stores and online platforms, along with providing installation and customer support.

Jio and SpaceX will also explore additional areas of cooperation to leverage their respective infrastructures and strengthen India’s digital ecosystem. The partnership aligns with Jio’s vision of making reliable, high-speed broadband accessible to all, including small and medium enterprises and rural communities.

“Ensuring that every Indian, no matter where they live, has access to affordable and high-speed broadband remains Jio’s top priority,” said Mathew Oommen, Group CEO, Reliance Jio. “Our collaboration with SpaceX strengthens our commitment and marks a transformative step toward universal broadband connectivity. By integrating Starlink into Jio’s broadband ecosystem, we are expanding our reach and enhancing the reliability of high-speed internet across India.”

Echoing this sentiment, Gwynne Shotwell, President and COO of SpaceX, stated, “We applaud Jio’s commitment to advancing India’s connectivity. We look forward to working with Jio and receiving authorization to provide more people, organizations, and businesses with access to Starlink’s high-speed services.”
