The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has dismissed reports that its Chair, Jean Adukwei Mensa, and the other commissioners have left the country after the results of the presidential elections were declared last Wednesday.
The reports are said to be making rounds on social media.
“We wish to state that Mrs Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, as well as all the Commissioners are at post discharging their legally mandated duties,” a release from the EC on Friday, December 11 said.
“The public is therefore urged to disregard this fake news.”
The Jean Mensa-led Commission superintended over Ghana’s eighth successive elections on Monday, December 7.
She declared the results on Wednesday.
But the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), whose candidate John Dramani Mahama, came second, has rejected the results, describing it as “fictitious”, “flawed” and “discredited”, among others.
