KATHUA, JAN 08:  The 13th Police Martyr’s Memorial North Zone T-20 Cricket Championship concluded on Wednesday at the Sports Stadium, Kathua, with Hills View Rajouri team defeating Verma Sports Club Ludhiana by 47 runs in a thrilling final.

As per the release issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the event’s chief guest, Anand Jain IPS, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone, lauded the efforts of Kathua Police, Shaheed Welfare Committee, and sponsors for organizing the championship. He also praised the public for their support and paid floral tributes to the martyrs while interacting with their families and distributing gifts.

The final match saw Hills View Rajouri batting first after winning the toss. They set a competitive target of 162 runs in 20 overs, led by skipper Puneet’s 50 off 48 balls, including six boundaries and a six, and Shiva Singh’s 33 off 29 balls. In response, Verma Sports Club Ludhiana struggled against a disciplined bowling attack and were all out for 115 runs in 17.5 overs.

Puneet was declared “Man of the Match” for his captain’s knock and received a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 and a trophy. The tournament recognized Bhagwinder of Verma Club Ludhiana as the “Player of the Tournament”, awarding him a Maruti Alto K10 car. Jadarth from L B Shastri Delhi team was named Best Bowler, while Rishant Kohli from Hills View Rajouri emerged as the Best Batsman of the tournament, both receiving motorbikes for their stellar performances.

The winning team, Hills View Rajouri, lifted the championship trophy and received a cash prize of Rs. 3.50 lakh, while the runner-up team, Verma Sports Club Ludhiana, was awarded Rs. 2.50 lakh and medals.

Senior police and civil administration officials, including DIG JSK Range Shiv Kumar Sharma-IPS, SSP Kathua Shobhit Saksena-IPS, SP Ops Border Kathua Nasir Khan, Addl. SP Kathua Rahul Charak, and Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rakesh Minhas-IAS, graced the event alongside a large gathering of spectators.

This championship, which saw participation from 16 teams, stands as a tribute to the bravery of police martyrs and a testament to the commitment of J&K Police in promoting sports and fostering community engagement.
