SRINAGAR, OCT 16: National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi on Wednesday outlined the two key challenges facing the newly formed government in Jammu and Kashmir: delivering on governance and fighting for the restoration of rights taken from the people on August 5, 2019. Ruhullah made these remarks on the sidelines of the oath-taking ceremony at SKICC in Srinagar, amid speculation about internal differences within the party.

Addressing the rumors, Ruhullah dismissed any claims of discord within the NC leadership. “I can’t help rumour mongers from spreading fake news. There is no question of any differences with the party leadership,” he told reporters.

Speaking about the challenges for the Omar Abdullah-led government, Ruhullah emphasized the need to deliver effective governance while simultaneously opposing the policies implemented by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2019. “The government must fight for the restoration of the rights that were snatched from the people of J&K on August 5, 2019, while also ensuring good governance,” he stated.

Ruhullah also addressed the Congress Party’s decision to stay out of the new government’s cabinet, clarifying that the Congress remains part of the broader governing coalition. “Congress may have chosen not to join the ministry, but they are still very much part of the government. This is an internal decision of the Congress, and the NC has no intention of interfering in their internal matters,” he said.

Furthermore, Ruhullah highlighted the importance of the INDIA alliance, both in Jammu and Kashmir and across the country, in fighting for people’s rights and promoting secular values. “The alliance must work to safeguard the rights of the people and strengthen secularism,” he added.
