Cyber Crime Awareness Programme

VIJAYPUR, NOV 09: The Department of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS, Vijaypur Jammu, organized a Cyber Crime Awareness Programme on Thursday, under the leadership of Executive Director and CEO, Dr. Shakti Kumar Gupta. The event, coordinated by Professor Dr Dinesh Rao, Head of Forensic Medicine, highlighted pressing concerns around cyber threats and the steps needed to mitigate them.

As per the release issued here, addressing the gathering, Mohammed Yasin Kichloo, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) at the Cyber Investigation Center for Excellence, Jammu & Kashmir, shed light on the growing menace of cybercrime, which has become a billion-dollar industry with far-reaching impacts on individuals, businesses, and governments worldwide.

Kichloo outlined how cybercriminals, often working in well-organized networks with both local and international ties, exploit digital platforms to commit crimes such as phishing, ransomware attacks, data breaches, and the creation of deepfake identities.

Kichloo cautioned attendees about the vulnerabilities associated with social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, explaining how cybercriminals create fake IDs and manipulate user information for malicious activities. He illustrated real-life examples of cases in Jammu and detailed the methods used by cybercrime divisions to apprehend perpetrators. “Social media users must exercise caution in updating their IDs and sharing their activities, as this information can be exploited,” he warned.

The SSP highlighted the rise of cyber scams involving the manipulation of artificial intelligence to create deepfake profiles, often targeting prominent figures or unsuspecting citizens. He emphasized the risks associated with careless sharing of personal details, such as revealing contact information in public places, discarding boarding passes, or providing OTPs. To help attendees safeguard their digital presence, Kichloo demonstrated tools such as the website www.tafcop.co.in, which allows users to track unauthorized phone numbers issued on their IDs.

Further, Kichloo offered practical advice on reporting cybercrime incidents. Victims can reach out to the helpline number 1930 and register complaints at the following websites:

The programme was well-attended by AIIMS Jammu faculty, staff, IT teams, and students. Dr. Shakti Kumar Gupta emphasized the importance of regular awareness and monitoring activities to combat the evolving landscape of cybercrime. “The key to mitigating cybercrime lies in awareness and vigilance,” he stated, encouraging everyone to follow the safety measures shared by Kichloo.

Professor Dr. Dinesh Rao, who organized and coordinated the programme, expressed gratitude to the participants for their active involvement and highlighted the need for such initiatives to protect against digital threats.
