SRINAGAR, OCT 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has announced that it will not join the newly formed government in Jammu and Kashmir, citing dissatisfaction over the continued delay in the restoration of statehood to the region. The announcement was made by JKPCC Chief Tariq Hameed Karra on Wednesday.

In a statement issued to the press, Karra emphasized that the Congress Party has consistently demanded the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, a promise repeatedly made by the Prime Minister in public forums but yet to be fulfilled. “Despite the Prime Minister’s assurances, the statehood of J&K has not been restored, and we are unhappy with this delay,” Karra said.

He further clarified that the Congress Party will continue to push for the restoration of statehood and, for the time being, has decided not to participate in the newly formed government. “We are not joining the Ministry at the moment, but our fight for the restoration of statehood will continue,” Karra added.
