NEW DELHI, NOV 10: In a significant gesture of respect, General Upendra Dwivedi, the Vice Chief of Army Staff (COAS), visited Honorary Captain Bana Singh, Param Vir Chakra (PVC), at the Army Hospital Research & Referral (AHRR) in Delhi Cantonment on Sunday. The legendary soldier is currently undergoing treatment at the facility.
Honorary Captain Bana Singh, a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI), etched his name in history on 23 June 1987. Leading his team in one of the most challenging military operations on the Siachen Glacier at an altitude of 21,000 feet, Bana Singh displayed exceptional valor by clearing enemy intrusions. The mission, undertaken in conditions marked by freezing cold, blizzards, and low oxygen levels, saw Singh and his men scale a 1500-foot ice wall with almost zero visibility. In an intense confrontation, he and his team engaged in close combat, using bayonets to dismantle enemy positions and eliminate hostile forces.
For his unmatched courage and leadership, Bana Singh was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military decoration. His heroism remains an inspiration for the Indian Army and the nation.
General Dwivedi’s visit underscored the Army’s respect and enduring support for its heroes.
