JAMMU, OCT 26: AIIMS Vijaypur’s Department of General Surgery, led by Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta, ED & CEO of AIIMS Jammu, organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) event focused on the “Latest Innovations in the Management of Breast Diseases.” The event, held on Saturday, brought together faculty, senior residents, nursing officers, and medical students to discuss cutting-edge advancements in breast health management.

As per the release issued here, the CME featured esteemed Chief Guest Prof (Dr) G.K. Rath, former Head of the National Cancer Institute and ex-Chief of Dr B.R. Ambedkar Institute-Rotary Cancer Hospital at AIIMS Delhi. His experience provided valuable insights into cancer treatment advancements. Additionally, Dr. Piyush Ranjan, Additional Professor in the Department of Surgical Disciplines, delivered a keynote on “Breast Imaging,” while Prof. Shabab Angurana, Head of the Department of Radiotherapy, spoke on “Precision Medicine in Breast Cancer,” highlighting personalized care approaches in oncology.

In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Department of General Surgery presented a report detailing its recent achievement of screening nearly 1,000 patients for breast cancer this October. Dr. Maria Kapoor, Additional Professor & Head of the Department, outlined these efforts and shared the department’s plan to introduce Integrated Breast Wellness Clinics, which will further improve breast health services.

Following the CME, a two-hour workshop offered participants hands-on experience with advanced imaging technologies for diagnosing and treating breast conditions. Over 50 participants from various surgical specialties engaged in the workshop, enhancing their practical skills.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, underscoring AIIMS Vijaypur’s dedication to advancing breast disease management and commitment to patient care and medical education.
