JAMMU, OCT 14: As part of the global Breast Cancer Awareness Month initiative, the Department of General Surgery at AIIMS Jammu, under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, conducted an awareness campaign on breast cancer at Central University Jammu (CUJ) on October 10, 2024. The event aimed to educate students and faculty on the importance of early detection and the available treatment options for breast cancer.
The theme for this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, “No one should face breast cancer alone”, guided the discussions, which emphasized the significance of regular screenings and self-examinations. The campaign focused on empowering attendees with knowledge about risk factors and self-examination techniques to aid early detection.
The programme featured a panel of experts from AIIMS Vijaypur, Jammu, including Dr. Maria Kapoor, Dr. Sushma Devi, Dr. Varun Dogra, Dr. Julie Singh, and Dr. Suneha Kumari. Participants engaged in a question-and-answer session, where the experts provided detailed insights into the complexities of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Senior Resident Dr. Vinay Bhagat and Junior Resident Dr. Shubham were also present to assist in the discussions.
In addition to the awareness campaign, the Department of General Surgery at AIIMS Jammu has launched special breast cancer awareness clinics at AIIMS Vijaypur, which will operate on all working days from 2 to 4 PM. Further public awareness campaigns are planned for the remainder of the year, along with a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session and a hands-on workshop on October 26, 2024, to enhance medical education and training in breast cancer care.
