Jammu, June 27:
In a major action to safeguard public health, Udhampur Police seized 242 kilograms of unhygienic cheese during naka checking at Phalata Naka in the Rehambal area on Saturday.
According to police, acting on reliable information, a team from Police Station Rehambal intercepted nine unclaimed cardboard boxes during routine checking. Upon inspection, the boxes were found to contain approximately 242 kg of cheese.
Suspecting the consignment to be unhygienic and sub-standard, the police informed the Food Safety Department. Food Safety Officer Sanjeev Gupta inspected the recovered cheese and declared it unfit for human consumption.
Following the prescribed procedure, the entire consignment was destroyed on the spot to prevent the distribution of unsafe food in the market.
Udhampur Police said the timely action helped avert a potential public health risk and reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens.
