JAMMU, DEC 08: The Department of Pediatric Surgery at AIIMS Jammu successfully hosted the 9th Annual Conference of Research and Innovation in Pediatric Surgery (RIPSSCON) 2024 on December 6 and 7. This landmark event, the first of its kind in Jammu & Kashmir, was organized under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Jammu. Held at the institute’s Convention Centre, the conference brought together eminent pediatric surgeons, researchers, educators, and policymakers from across the country.
As per the statement issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the event organized under the aegis of Research and Innovation in Pediatric Surgery, a subdivision of the Indian Association of Pediatric Surgery, the two-day conference offered a dynamic agenda. It featured keynote addresses, orations, expert panel discussions, workshops, and research presentations, all aimed at advancing pediatric surgical practices and healthcare outcomes.
Prof. (Dr.) Shakti K. Gupta delivered the keynote address on “Surgeons as Leaders: Navigating Administrative Challenges,” emphasizing the leadership role of surgeons beyond the operating room. The event also featured three prestigious orations: the Amita Sen RIPSS Oration 2024 by Dr. H.P.S. Miglani, the BHU Alumni RIPSS Oration 2024 by Prof. (Dr.) A.N. Gangopadhyay, and the Upadhaya Gupta RIPSS Oration 2024 by Prof. (Dr.) Anurag Krishna.
The Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Sumitra Kumar Biswas, President of the Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons, and Guest of Honor, Prof. (Dr.) Shilpa Sharma from AIIMS New Delhi, graced the occasion alongside other luminaries. Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to pioneers in the field, including Prof. (Dr.) D.K. Gupta, Prof. (Dr.) H.L. Goswamy, Prof. (Dr.) Yogeshwar Mengi, and Prof. (Dr.) Nasib C. Digra, for their invaluable contributions to pediatric surgery.
The organizing team, led by Dr. Vijay Kumar Kundal (HOD), Dr. Lucky Gupta, and Dr. Akshat Sudhanshu, highlighted the significance of multidisciplinary collaboration in optimizing patient care. The conference also recognized exemplary talent in pediatric surgery with the RIPSS Fellowship 2024 awarded to a distinguished group of professionals, including Dr. Archika Gupta, Dr. Vijay Kundal, and Dr. Shilpa Sharma, among others.
