AMBALA (HARYANA), NOV 04: The 5th edition of the bilateral military exercise between India and Vietnam, VINBAX 2024, began on Monday at Ambala, Haryana. Scheduled from November 4 to November 23, the joint exercise aims to strengthen defense ties and enhance cooperation between the Indian Army and the Vietnam People’s Army.
As per the handout issued here, this year’s edition, for the first time, includes bi-service level participation with personnel from both countries’ armies and air forces taking part.
The Indian contingent is represented by 47 personnel, including a regiment from the Corps of Engineers and other specialized units, while the Vietnamese contingent comprises troops from the Vietnam People’s Army, mirroring similar strength and diversity.
The primary objective of VINBAX 2024 is to enhance joint military capabilities, especially in the deployment of engineer and medical teams for United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, as outlined under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The training exercise will focus on crucial engineering tasks and medical support, emphasizing roles within a UN contingent.
In addition to core exercises, VINBAX 2024 will feature a 48-hour validation phase, which includes a demonstration of Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief (HADR) operations and an equipment display. This segment aims to assess the preparedness of both contingents in executing complex military operations under similar conditions to those encountered in UN missions.
The enhanced scope of VINBAX 2024 reflects growing military ties between India and Vietnam. This exercise serves as a platform to foster mutual confidence and interoperability, enabling both forces to share best practices. Beyond tactical and operational training, the exercise also provides an opportunity for the Indian and Vietnamese troops to engage in cultural exchanges, helping them better understand each other’s heritage and societal values.
