New Delhi/Jammu, Feb 11:
In a significant update for the healthcare sector in Jammu & Kashmir, the Central Government today revealed that over ₹85.77 crore has been sanctioned for the Union Territory under the National Ayush Mission (NAM) over the last two years.
The details were provided by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush, Prataprao Jadhav, in a written response to a question raised by Sat Sharma (CA), J&K BJP President and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).
The Financial Blueprint
The allocation highlights a robust investment in traditional and holistic medicine systems within the UT.

Sanctioned Amount: ₹8,577.60 lakh (includes Central and UT shares).

Reported Expenditure: ₹5,632.32 lakh (as reported by the UT Government).

Objective: Strengthening infrastructure, expanding rural access, and promoting Ayurveda, Yoga, and Unani systems.
Transforming Healthcare Infrastructure
The Minister detailed a major overhaul of the healthcare landscape, transitioning from traditional dispensaries to modern wellness hubs.

Impact: Jobs and Holistic Wellness
Beyond infrastructure, the National Ayush Mission has emerged as a significant driver for employment generation in J&K. The mission has facilitated the engagement of a diverse workforce, including: Doctors and Paramedics, Yoga Instructors, Multipurpose and Support Staff and Data Entry Operators.
MP Sat Sharma, reacting to the reply, stated that these figures reflect the “growing importance of AYUSH” in the public health framework. He emphasized that the focus moving forward must remain on rural and far-flung areas to ensure that holistic healthcare is not a luxury but a standard accessible to all.
