Srinagar, Dec 26:
The legal fraternity in Jammu and Kashmir is in deep mourning today following the untimely demise of Advocate Sheikh Adil Nabi, a promising young CBI prosecutor who succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident on Thursday.
The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon, December 25, at approximately 3:00 PM near the railway crossing in Banihal. Sheikh Adil, 35, was driving his Alto car (registration JK10) from Banihal toward his home in Kashmir when his vehicle was struck by a Scorpio (registration JK01BB-2625).
Adil was reportedly returning from Delhi/Chandigarh to his native area of Bijbehara when the collision took place.
At Thursday, Critical collision happened near Banihal railway crossing. He was shifted immediately to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal for first aid. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was moved to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag. Later he was shifted to SKIMS Soura in Srinagar for specialized treatment.
Sheikh Adil Nabi, son of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh and a resident of Kandipora, Bijbehara, was widely regarded as a brilliant and dedicated professional. He had recently reached a major career milestone by clearing the UPSC examination, leading to his appointment as a Public Prosecutor with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), posted in Chandigarh/Delhi. Before joining the CBI, he was a well-known legal practitioner associated with the District Court Srinagar.
News of his passing has triggered a wave of grief across South Kashmir and the legal community. Members of the Bar Association and fellow advocates have described his death as a “monumental loss” to the legal profession, remembering him as a humble and hardworking individual with a bright future ahead.
His Nimaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayers) were scheduled to be offered at 10:00 AM today in his native village in Bijbehara.
Police have taken cognizance of the accident, and further investigations into the circumstances of the collision are underway.
