JAMMU, OCT 20: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) on Sunday intercepted a modified oil tanker involved in bovine smuggling in the Jandrah area of Nagrota subdivision. During the operation, seven bovines were rescued from the tanker, which had been specially altered to conceal the animals. The smugglers had created a hidden compartment within the vehicle to avoid detection at police checkpoints.
The incident underscores the lengths smugglers go to in order to bypass law enforcement, using modified vehicles for illegal activities. Police’s swift intervention highlights their vigilance and commitment to combating illegal bovine transportation in the region. The oil tanker, bearing registration number JK03B/1844, had a special cavity designed by the vehicle’s owner to transport bovines toward the valley illegally. Police suspect the vehicle may have been used for other unlawful activities, which are now under further investigation.
The driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle on the road. A case has been registered under FIR No. 234/24 US 223 BNS 11 PC Act 96/146 MV Act at Jhajjar Kotli Police Station, and further investigations are underway.
