JAMMU, AUGUST 31: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has rescheduled the date for counting votes in the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. The counting, initially set for October 04, will now take place on October 8, 2024, following a change in the polling date for Haryana.

According to an official order, the ECI made this decision after receiving several representations requesting a change in the election date for Haryana, which was originally scheduled for October 01.

The revised schedule now sets the Haryana polling date for October 05, leading to the adjustment of the vote counting for both Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana to October 08.

“The poll body has carefully considered the concerns raised by stakeholders and decided to reschedule the polling date for Haryana to ensure a smooth electoral process. As a result, the counting of votes for both Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Haryana, will now be conducted on October 08,” read the ECI’s order.

This change in the election timetable is aimed at ensuring a fair and efficient election process, allowing adequate time for polling and counting across the two states.
