Flash floods in Kishtwar and Doda: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha directs immediate restoration, high alert declared

Srinagar, June 2:

Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha is closely monitoring the situation arises due to the flash floods caused by heavy rainfall in Kishtwar and Doda. He has spoken to the Deputy Commissioners of the affected districts and directed them to remain on high alert and swiftly restore essential amenities.

On-Ground Directives: Infrastructure & Medical Mobilization

To counter disruptions caused by the adverse weather conditions, a series of urgent directives have been issued to the district administrations:

  • Swift Restoration: The DCs of both Kishtwar and Doda have been ordered to deploy machinery immediately to clear and restore roads, major highways, and damaged water pipelines.

  • Emergency Readiness: Ground-level field staff and specialized medical teams have been mobilized and placed on high alert to handle any sudden medical emergencies.

  • Damage Assessment: Comprehensive field verifications will commence immediately upon the stabilization of weather conditions to evaluate any underlying agricultural or infrastructural losses.

While the flash floods themselves caused no casualties, a tragic weather-related incident was reported from the higher reaches of Doda district. One woman, identified as Pinki Devi, a resident of Khuddhar, Doda, passed away after being struck by lightning during the severe storm.

Expressing his deep grief over the incident, Lieutenant Governor Sinha extended his sincere condolences to the bereaved family. He has strictly directed the Deputy Commissioner of Doda to expedite and provide immediate relief and financial assistance to the victim’s family members during this difficult time.
