New Delhi, March 11:

In a major move to strengthen Jammu and Kashmir’s institutional presence across India, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today chaired a high-level review meeting to overhaul and expand JK House properties.

From the heart of the national capital to the financial hub of Mumbai, the Chief Minister’s vision is clear: these properties must not only provide world-class facilities for students, patients, and officials but must also serve as “cultural embassies” of the Union Territory.

A New Identity: “The Local Touch”

The Chief Minister sent a directive to the Resident Commission to move away from generic architecture. He emphasized that every new construction and renovation must reflect J&K’s unique heritage.

“Ensure that the new constructions carry a local touch of Jammu and Kashmir’s rich cultural legacy. These assets should reflect a unique blend of heritage and modern functionality,” CM Omar Abdullah stated during the review.

Key Projects & Strategic Expansions

The meeting, attended by Resident Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, mapped out several critical infrastructure goals:

Location Project Scope Key Details
Dwarka, New Delhi New Construction Establishing a new JK House to augment accommodation for visitors and officials.
Navi Mumbai (Kharghar) New Facility A ₹29.56 Crore DPR has been submitted for a new hub in the financial capital.
Amritsar, Punjab Consolidation CM directed officials to negotiate with the Punjab Govt for a single, consolidated plot instead of scattered land parcels.
5, Prithviraj Road (Delhi) Upgradation Redevelopment and extension of guest house facilities.
Chanakyapuri (Delhi) VIP Modernization Upgrading VIP rooms into premium suites.

Benchmarking Excellence

The Chief Minister instructed officers to study the best-performing state guest houses across India to incorporate “best practices” in architecture and service delivery.

To ensure the projects are completed without administrative hurdles, the government is considering entrusting construction to top-tier agencies like the NBCC (National Buildings Construction Corporation) and CPWD, as well as local government agencies in states like Maharashtra.

Focus on Service for Residents

Beyond official use, the expansion is specifically aimed at easing the stay for:

  • Students pursuing education in metro cities.

  • Patients seeking specialized medical treatment outside the UT.

  • Visitors and tourists from Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Minister concluded by urging for a “shortest possible timeframe” for completion, ensuring that the benefits of these world-class facilities reach the people of J&K as soon as possible.
