Jammu, Feb 6:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in the winter capital late Thursday night for a high-stakes two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Landing at the Jammu Technical Airport around 11:00 PM, he was received by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha before proceeding to Lok Bhavan, which will serve as the nerve center for his stay.

This visit comes at a critical juncture as the region maintains a “zero-tolerance” posture toward terrorism and focuses on an aggressive infrastructure rollout.

Friday Schedule: Border Vigil and Welfare

The Home Minister’s Friday itinerary is packed with high-visibility engagements along the International Border (IB) and high-level strategy sessions:

  • Morning (11:10 AM – 11:30 AM): Shah will fly to the Hiranagar sector in Kathua district. He is scheduled to inspect the Gurnam and Bobiya Border Outposts (BOPs).

  • Welfare for Guards: From the Bobiya BOP, he will e-inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for six new welfare schemes specifically designed for border personnel. These include infrastructure upgrades and family welfare measures for those serving in forward areas.

  • Anti-Infiltration Check: The Home Minister will inspect new high-tech gadgetry and repaired fencing (damaged during last year’s monsoon) aimed at plugging infiltration routes from across the border.

Security Review at Lok Bhavan

Upon his return from the border at 2:30 PM, Shah will chair a comprehensive Security Review Meeting at Lok Bhavan. Key attendees include:

  • LG Manoj Sinha and Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo.

  • DGP Nalin Prabhat and top officials from the MHA, Intelligence Bureau (IB), and RAW.

  • Heads of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

Core Focus: The meeting is expected to prioritize Operation Trashi-I—the ongoing hunt for foreign terrorists in the hilly terrains of Kishtwar, Udhampur, and Kathua—as well as the recent elimination of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militants.

Honoring the Fallen: Compassionate Appointments

Following the security meet, in a significant outreach effort, Amit Shah will interact with the families of terror victims and martyrs. He will personally distribute compassionate appointment letters, a move aimed at reassuring the families of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for national security.

The Development Roadmap (Saturday)

On Saturday, the focus will shift from security to governance.

  • 10:30 AM: A high-level meeting on the Development of J&K will take place.

  • Key Agenda: Reviewing the progress of flagship central schemes, infrastructure connectivity, and the economic roadmap for 2026.

  • Political Outreach: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is expected to attend, with reports suggesting he may raise the issue of reopening tourist sites closed since the Pahalgam incident.
