Jammu, January 19:
Vigilance remains high in the border sectors of Jammu as a toy balloon bearing the logo of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was recovered from an open field in the Kachriyal area of Pallanwala, located in the Akhnoor tehsil, on Monday morning.
Discovery and Police Response
The incident came to light early on January 19, 2026, when local residents spotted the aeroplane-shaped balloon. Recognizing the Pakistani markings, they immediately alerted the local police.
-
Location: Kachriyal, Pallanwala (Akhnoor Tehsil), Jammu District.
-
Item Description: A green and white toy balloon featuring the “PIA” logo in both English and Urdu.
-
Current Status: Secured and taken into police custody for routine verification.
No Immediate Threat Detected
Following the recovery, a specialized team conducted a preliminary inspection of the object. Official statements from the police have confirmed that the balloon did not carry any:
-
Explosives or hazardous materials.
-
Electronic devices or surveillance equipment.
-
Sensitive documents or coded messages.
“A thorough verification revealed nothing suspicious. The item has been assessed as a harmless, non-sensitive toy. We advise the public not to panic,” a senior police official stated.
A Recurring Pattern on the Border
This discovery follows a series of similar incidents over the last few months. Intelligence agencies believe such items often drift across the border due to wind patterns, though they are never taken lightly given the high-security grid in the region.
With Republic Day celebrations approaching on January 26, security forces across the Jammu region—including the BSF and J&K Police—have intensified patrolling and surveillance to thwart any attempts at mischief or infiltration from across the border.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or activity to the nearest police post immediately.
