Jammu, January 14:

Marking the 10th Armed Forces Veterans Day, Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha paid glowing tributes to ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, and their families at a mega commemorative event held at ALG Rajouri today.

The LG described veterans as the “embodiment of living history,” emphasizing that their commitment to the motherland does not end when they hang up the uniform, but remains a lifelong dedication to the nation’s progress.

New Initiatives for Veteran Welfare

In a significant move to bolster support for the retired military community, the Lieutenant Governor launched two key initiatives:

  • The “Wall of Fame”: Inaugurated to immortalize the names and deeds of the region’s bravehearts.

  • Dedicated Police Helpline: A new, specialized service designed to provide immediate assistance and grievance redressal for veterans across the region.

“They Live Sacrifice Every Moment”

In a deeply emotional address, the LG highlighted the invisible nature of military service, contrasting the peace of civilian life with the constant alertness of the soldier.

“While the nation sleeps in peace, they stand alert. While the nation celebrates festivals, our soldiers safeguard the border far away from home. They do not speak about sacrifice; they live it every moment,” LG Sinha said.

He further noted that the courage of the Indian Army serves as the backbone of national security, and that veterans continue to serve as role models for the youth, guiding them with character and timeless values.

Honoring the Legends

The event paid homage to iconic figures of the Indian military, including:

  • Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa: The first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, whose retirement on this day is the reason for the Veterans Day observance.

  • Local Heroes: Tributes were paid to Second Lieutenant Ram Raghoba Rane, Brigadier Mohammad Usman, and Naik Jadunath Singh, along with the bravehearts of the Rajouri region.

Empowering the Brave

The event was marked by a Mega Ex-Servicemen Rally, where the LG distributed essential mobility aids to disabled veterans and Veer Naris, including: Motorised Wheelchairs, Retrofitted Scooties and Other specialized mobility equipment

Dignitaries in Attendance

The event saw a strong presence from both military and civil leadership:

  • Military: Lt Gen Pratik Sharma (Northern Command), Lt Gen P K Mishra (16 Corps), and Maj Gen Kaushik Mukherjee.

  • Civil: MLAs Shri Iftkhar Ahmed, Thakur Randhir Singh, and Ms. Devyani Rana.

  • Administration: DIG Rajouri Poonch Range, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, and SSP Rajouri.

The LG concluded by reiterating the government’s resolve to build a “life of dignity” for every soldier who has served, ensuring that the welfare of their families remains a top priority under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
