New Delhi, January 7:
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to lead a high-stakes security review of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, marking the first major assessment of the Union Territory’s internal security in 2026. The meeting comes at a critical time as security forces intensify operations to dismantle terror networks in the rugged terrain of the Jammu region.
The meeting, scheduled to take place at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), will see a convergence of the top brass from both the central government and the UT administration.
Key Attendees Include: Manoj Sinha (Lieutenant Governor of J&K), Govind Mohan (Union Home Secretary), Nalin Prabhat (Director General of Police (DGP), J&K), Atal Dulloo (Chief Secretary, J&K), Nitish Kumar (Intelligence Chief (ADGP CID)), Heads of Paramilitary Forces (Including chiefs of CRPF and BSF) and Intelligence Agencies (Top officials from the IB and R&AW).
Sources indicate that the primary agenda revolves around a two-pronged strategy: eliminating hiding terrorists and maintaining “Zero Infiltration” across the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB).
“The Home Minister will be briefed on the specialized search operations currently underway in the mountainous reaches of Kishtwar, Doda, and Udhampur. The focus is to ensure that no window is left open for foreign terrorists to exploit the harsh winter conditions,” an official source stated.
The review is particularly significant as it addresses the “Winter Strategy.” Historically, terrorists have attempted to use heavy snowfall and low visibility to cross the border with assistance from across the fence.
Operational Highlights to be Discussed: Review of recent gun battles in the upper reaches of the Jammu region, Coordination between the Army and BSF to keep infiltration at absolute zero and Strengthening the network to track down foreign mercenaries reportedly hiding in natural caves and dense forests.
Despite a series of successful encounters during the last few months, reports suggest that terror launch pads across the border remain active. The Home Minister is expected to issue fresh directives to the security agencies to maintain a high state of alertness and ensure the safety of both residents and the ongoing development projects in the region.
