Srinagar, Dec 30:
Security forces along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir have been placed on a state of “Maximum Alert” ahead of New Year celebrations. The move aims to thwart infiltration attempts and ensure a peaceful festive period for residents and tourists alike.
Senior officials confirmed that a multi-tier security grid has been activated across sensitive sectors, including: North Kashmir (Gurez, Uri, Karnah, and Tangdhar) and Jammu Region (Samba, Kathua, and the Akhnoor sector).
“Our troops are maintaining strict dominance over sensitive sectors. We are prepared to respond swiftly to any provocation or infiltration attempts during the holiday period,” a senior security official stated.
The BSF is no longer relying solely on physical patrolling. This year, the border has been fortified with a “Digital Shield”: Laser-activated barriers and technology-enabled systems plug vulnerable gaps. Ground-based robotic devices are patrolling difficult, mountainous terrain where human presence is challenging. Drones and quadcopters equipped with high-resolution Night Vision cameras provide a 24/7 live feed to command centers. Bulletproof vehicles and all-terrain transport have been deployed for rapid troop movement.
“The safety of civilians is our top priority. Our dominance along the LoC is critical to maintaining peace through vigilance.” — Senior Security Official
In a significant display of national security, female BSF personnel (Mahila Praharis) are playing a lead role in the New Year security grid. Deployed in forward positions, they are actively involved in: Manning observation posts and bunkers, Managing security checks for women at border entry points and Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with their male colleagues in sub-zero temperatures.
Beyond the borders, security in urban areas like Srinagar and Jammu has also been intensified. Additional checkpoints have been established at entry points to cities, and surprise verifications are being conducted at venues hosting New Year parties.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or objects to the nearest police station immediately.
