Srinagar, Dec 27:
A sense of shock has gripped the Safakadal area of Srinagar after a 16-year-old boy from Uttar Pradesh was found with his throat slit inside his rented accommodation on Saturday.
The minor, whose identity has been withheld, was discovered in critical condition following an attack with a sharp-edged object. Local residents and officials acted swiftly to move the teenager to a nearby facility before he was shifted for specialized treatment.
The incident occurred inside a rented room where the boy, a resident of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, had been staying.
Upon discovery, the injured boy was immediately rushed to the SMHS Hospital in Srinagar. Medical officials stated that the boy sustained a deep “slit-throat” injury and his condition is being closely monitored. As of Saturday evening, an official update on his stable or critical status is still awaited from the health department.
The Jammu & Kashmir Police have taken formal cognizance of the violent incident. A team of forensic experts and local police visited the room in Safakadal to collect evidence.
“Investigation is in its preliminary stages. We are looking into all possible angles to identify the assailant and determine the motive behind this gruesome attack,” an official source told news agencies.
Authorities are currently questioning neighbors and checking CCTV footage in the vicinity to track any suspicious movement near the rented accommodation at the time of the incident.
The attack on a non-local minor has sparked concerns among the local community in Safakadal, a densely populated area of the old city. This incident follows a pattern of heightened vigilance by security forces regarding the safety of non-local workers and residents in the valley.
