JAMMU, FEB 14: An army personnel was injured in a gunfire incident along the Line of Control (LoC) in Akhnoor sector on Friday, security officials said.
The soldier, who was stationed at a forward post in Battal area, sustained a bullet injury, reportedly fired from across the border. He was immediately evacuated to a hospital, where he is said to be responding positively to treatment, officials added.
Authorities have yet to determine whether the Pakistan Army or terrorists were responsible for the firing.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions along the LoC, following a series of cross-border actions over the past week. On February 11, an IED attack by suspected terrorists in the Akhnoor sector resulted in the death of two Indian Army personnel, including a captain. Additionally, a ceasefire violation by Pakistan was reported, with retaliatory action causing heavy casualties on the Pakistani side.
