HYDERABDA, FEB 02: Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, addressed the South India BHU Alumni Meet at the IICT Auditorium in Hyderabad, commemorating the foundation day of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). He lauded the institution’s historic contributions, emphasizing its role in shaping India’s education system and socio-economic development.
Highlighting BHU’s legacy, LG Sinha said the university nurtured the spirit of the freedom movement since its establishment in 1916 and played a crucial role in awakening national consciousness. “BHU became a catalyst for socio-economic and industrial transformation in post-independence India and contributed significantly towards building a strong nation,” he stated.
The Lieutenant Governor underscored Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya’s vision of a university that would contribute to India’s progress. “Mahamana’s ideals were rooted in three objectives—liberating India, rebuilding industries, and preparing youth with the best education system for a brighter future. His dream of a self-reliant and modern India was realized through BHU,” he remarked.
LG Sinha noted that BHU has not only preserved India’s core ideals and traditions but has also transformed the country’s education system. Quoting a monograph prepared during the Amrit Mahotsav, he said, “BHU has emerged as an important partner in India’s economic development. It became a breeding ground for revolutionary ideas, instilling patriotism and activism among its students, many of whom played pivotal roles in the freedom struggle.”
The Lieutenant Governor also commended BHU’s alumni for their global contributions in diverse fields, from groundbreaking research to fostering social and economic change. Extending his wishes on the occasion of Basant Panchami and Saraswati Puja, he acknowledged BHU’s role in empowering students, particularly women, to become future leaders and achievers.
