Battle of Phuklian

JAMMU, DEC 06: Indian Army commemorated the 53rd anniversary of its historic victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War with a series of events organized by the Chenab Brigade under the aegis of the Tiger Division on Friday. The celebrations, held to honor the Battle of Phuklian (Chenab) Enclave, showcased the valiant efforts and sacrifices of Indian soldiers.

As per the official handout issued to The Newsroom 24 – Awaz, the commemorative events began on December 03 with a motorcycle rally to the border villages of Pargwal, Makwal, and Marh in Jammu and Kashmir. The rally aimed to inspire the youth by highlighting the heroic exploits of the Indian Army during the war.

As part of the celebrations, the bikers from the Chenab Brigade held movie screenings and engaged with the residents of these border villages. A friendly cricket match with local youth and a painting competition in schools further fostered camaraderie and community spirit.

In a significant highlight of the event, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Tiger Division unveiled a monolith at Makwal village on Friday. The ceremony witnessed the presence of civil dignitaries, officials from the J&K Police, civil administration, local residents, and schoolchildren from neighboring villages.

The monolith stands as a tribute to the bravery and selflessness of the Chenab Brigade soldiers, with the inscription “Those who wrung it but never sung” symbolizing their silent yet profound sacrifices. The monument is expected to inspire future generations by preserving the memory of their valor and dedication to the nation.
